    pressing in cross member cushions

The rear differential cross member was powder coated and the inner ring were the cushion is pressed into was also coated. Is it necessary for me to grind off the paint prior to pressing in the cushions? Also are there any tricks to pressing these in or is it fairly straight forward. Thx Dave

Dave to help with the install of new bushings I would remove the paint in the recess of the cross member. I used a press on the install and used a little white grease to help ease the new bushings into place.

Never seize compound always helps with press fit items such as this

Do any of you think that petroleum based lubricants -- white grease or never seize -- are good if in contact with the elastomer of the cushions? That is why I like silicone lubes, but the painter doesn't. On the other hand something water soluble from your local drug store might be the safest.

It is steel against steel, the rubber is encased inside a steel housing, neverseize for me

Here's the Tech Service Bulletin (courtesy reprint in Vette Vues). Third pic is of revised 8-tab design used after '65 VIN 16517. Also notice the upward revision in X-member to frame torque.
