    Is Edna still alive?

    Hi all,

Back at the regional at Seven Springs, there was a '57 Bowtie car there that we all looked at. We even looked at the bottom of the seat cushions and I thought the neatest thing was that the woman who did the upholstering signed it. I'm attaching a pic.

So, I'm taking all the seat covers and everything off of the seat cushions of my '57 race car and what do I find but Edna's signature! The other one was also signed, but just with the initials, JW.

Makes me wonder if Edna is still around. If she was 60, then she'd be 117, but if she was 20, then she'd be 77 and could easily still be around. Anyone know of any way to find out? I'd bet she'd be excited that some examples of her craftsmanship were still being celebrated!

The US Rubber and US Naugahyde stamps are pretty neat, too!

    Thanks,

    Bob

    Bob -

I had a similar experience (but not as dramatic) back in 1973 when I was restoring a '65 tanker - it had led a tough 8 years, and the black leather seat covers were beyond saving. I arranged with Findlay Industries, who made the originals, to make me a new set, and sent them the originals if they needed them to use as patterns. A couple of weeks later, I got a package from Findlay with the new covers, with a note from the lady who made them, stating that she had also made the originals I sent, and she hoped I enjoyed the new covers.

I had a number of interesting experiences dealing direct with original suppliers when I restored that car (before NCRS) back in the days of typewriters and self-addressed stamped envelopes.

Bob, I'm glad you started this thread. When I bought my '57 in 2002 the owner of 36 years told me when he replaced the orgional seat covers in1988 he found the drivers side was signed by Edna and the passenger side was signed by Fifi . I said hmmmm OK. I have commented on this to other '57 owners , and found others also were signed by Edna . Looks like a gret survey in the making. Dana

No, I don't, but some were quite interesting - when I restored the doors, I needed the rear/upper glass runs (with the "bubble clips") and the little stainless rear lower inner corner piece with a spot of "fuzzy" on it. Some calls to Chevrolet Purchasing disclosed the supplier of both parts to be USM (United Shoe Machinery Co.); I sent them a letter and some photos, and they sent me four complete L/R sets they found in their warehouse (all of which I used on subsequent restorations).
