    Carpet Replacement & Underlayment

May need to replace the carpeting in my 67 SB and was thinking about installing either dynamite or hushmat under the carpet.
Once installed can they easily be removed if needed?

Ralph,I used the an underlayment from Home Depot! It was about 1/8" thick and came in a roll. I'm not sure of the length, but the width was about two feet. Very easy to use and I glued it down with contact cement. I guess you can remove it if necessary. Hope this helps.Jerry

I researched both. I don't recall all of the key points as it was a few months ago that i did my research but the majority of reviews I read from different forums was dynamat over hushmat.

depends on your definition of easily removed.
We have some on an exhaust dilution tunnel, it helps but it is still loud. As for taking it off, it came with a peel off backing. It was a peel and stick mat. We haven't had to try to remove it yet.

Did you or would you use it on your car?
It makes everything look nice before installing the carpet and underlayment but is it really necessary?

I haven't done it but was looking for the left overs from that project to try them. I would be concerned about carpet fit after the installation if reusing the same carpet. That and the costs to do it.
I am not sure if I would, but only because I don't drive it long distances and it just isn't hot enough to bother me. 'Back in the day' none of my cars had a/c and in summer they were hot and you sweated. Sorta made it nice when you stopped at a DQ or an A&W or Dog n Suds

                Ralphie,

Lowe's has the same insulation as mentioned above. It has aluminum foil on both sides and is easily formed to fit the wheel wells.
As far as removing it just depends on what glue you use. I use the 3M general upholstery adhesive and don't expect to ever remove it. I spray both the fiberglass and the backing of the mat and wait until its sticky. Then it lives up to the name of contact cement.

I guess no one expects to ever remove this stuff, so I must be over thinking this and should stop procrastinating and get started on this project.

                    STOP!!!!!!!
You must first assemble a peer panel for project revue, perform a cost analysis and an environmental impact study. Submit a request for a capitol expenditure (in triplicate), get the unions to agree to the project.

                      Ralphie,

Am I seeing some project scope creep?

Dash cluster and now new carpets and underlayment.......whats next new seat foams?

                      Hope you're doing well.

                        Hey Ralphie,

Hope 67 projects are going well. Looks like you are progressing thru some of the hard ones first.
Miss you and DonO. Maybe Carlisle this year!

You guys are so funny Yes we got a little scope creep on the project. Once I removed the seat and console to fix the dash I notice how much the black carpet was fading to brown. Could wait until next year, but I like playing in the garage.

                          Carlisle maybe, Kissimmee definitely
