4 bolt blocks also have relief cuts at the top of the bores for the intake valves and they have 2, 1/4-20 taped holes near the cam sprocket contact surface.

I believe that all 3855962 blocks were 4 bolt and all 3855961 blocks were 2 bolt. All the other 396, 427 and 454 castings were machined in both 2 bolt and 4 bolt configurations.

Same for small blocks - in fact one doesn't have to do anything to a small block because there are NO external differences. For SB it is all in the machining after casting.

It is true that even 350-300 had 4 bolt blocks in 69 and 70.

I have been told that you can do a little cosmetic work on the exterior of a two bolt block and it will look exactly like a four bolt, not that I know anything about it

And what about all the millions of other Chevrolet small block V8s out there that never were installed in a Corvette? Please do not take such a narrow view. If your Corvette was missing its engine, or if the engine suffered a fatality, the whole Chevrolet V8 world could be your donor.

Guess I was wrong. I thought only the LT-1 & truck blocks were 4 bolt mains. And to think my Grandpa told me that in a bar so I was sure it was true.

Should have asked your grandpa before he had been in the bar too long. Sorry if I stumbled into a private joke between you and Terry.

NA The more the merrier. Maybe if we were all setting in the bar with Grandpa we would have got the straight scoop.

About twenty years ago I had an original motor '66 390hp roadster that was built on either the last or second to last day of '66 production. It had "351" block in it that was dated G 9 6.So crazier things could have happened but that does seem too late for 942 block to be used in a '67

I agree with Richard Edgen in post #3 that this vin is 4262. This block came up in post back in Sept 2013 by Joe Marocco. I will try and attach the link. https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...mping-question
