    63 wiper arm parts MIA

I'm suspecting I'm missing parts in my wiper arm. Can the missing parts be bought somewhere or should I try to locate an original 63 left wiper arm somewhere??? Any tips or hints?

    Rob,

You are missing the pin and the part that connects the pin to the spring. I assume that these two small parts are the same used on other Trico wiper arms of the same era. Finding an original 63-65 Corvette L/S arm at a reasonable price might be difficult.

Rob, Is it possible to just drill a 1/8 hole through the wiper arm and install a roll pin in its place??

        |I'm not sure if I need more then the pin? Does the spring attach directly to the pin?

Rob, Yes there is a pin that runs across the lower pivot and holds tension on the spring. The problem is I believe the spring has a lot of tension and the pin spring has to be pulled and then the roll pin pushed through. This what I would do for a fix if it can be done. the only other choice is to purchase another blade. There is one company that makes a repro, Americas Finest Corvettes, to make correct you'll have to install the lower shield (The part that has the patent numbers wriiten all over it).

There are 2 parts missing. The spring attaches to a connector which then attaches to the pin. I will post a photo when I get a chance.

Dave is correct I took a look at my 63 wiper and the appears to be a bracket that hooks around the pivot that spring attaches.

The connector helps spread out the load from the spring to the pin, otherwise the pin would tend to bend if the spring was directly connected to it - simple structural analysis, a "point load" would tend to bend the pin. A "point load" on the small hole on the connector would only tend to elongate the hole.

Photo #1 is from an original 1965 Chevelle wiper arm. Note that the lower part of the Chevelle wiper arm "flares out" unlike the Corvette wiper arm lower part.

Photo #2 is an ANCO wiper arm which is similar in construction.

Americas Finest makes a pretty good reproduction of the original 63 wiper arm.
