    Re: Brace Yourselves

I sure hope the museum had sinkhole coverage on the building. It is not included in most policies. Remember the Winter Park Florida sinkhole that took a city block including a Porsche dealership back in the early 80's. I lived in Winter Haven at the time and a hole about 200 yds in diameter opened up and swallowed a citrus grove. I can remember stand there looking down at the treetops. One opened up across the street from my friends house and was a good 75' deep between two houses. There is a house sitting on top of it today after it was plugged with concrete.

This tells me that the Corvette really is a halo car that the company covets and values, and that extends to the museum. This says that all will be made right. I am feeling better about the situation at the museum now.

Many acts of God are covered by insurance. If lighting strikes a building, that is a covered peril. If wind blows a tree over on a building, that is a covered peril. If the museum has coverage on their property for sinkhole coverage, it would not extend to vehicles in the museum unless they had some type of specific liability coverage for vehicles in their care, custody, and control. Even then, they would need to be liable or negligent to activate coverage. Each vehicle would be covered for sinking into the whole if the vehicle owner had comprehensive and collision coverage on the vehicle. Shifting of earth, mud slides, earthquakes are generally not covered for buildings unless optional coverage is purchased. Flood coverage is nearly always an additional coverage that is not built into commercial property policies.

Right Tim, you do wonder if their insurance policy covered the sinkhole collapse.

When I sold commercial insurance in Northern California, earthquake coverage was always an offered option. Many lenders would require earthquake coverage just as lenders do in flood zones. I have no idea if any lenders are involved in this case, but if so, they may have required this coverage.

They already reported yesterday that they did have sinkhole coverage on the building, and both the building and cars are fully covered.

Insurance coverage is just one of the reasons I posted the link to the press conference. Cliff Notes:

I saw that, but I could not hear the sound on the link (combination of poor speakers on my MacBook Air and my poor hearing) and was trying to see if there was a transcript someplace today. Haven't found it yet. I did see an email from an NCM official that insurance would cover the cars however.
