'74 carburetor

I got a phone call today with the following question. An individual is looking for an original restored carburetor for her 74. Small block 350 with an automatic trans. I know absolutely nothing about this subject but will try and help this lady.
Where do I go from here gang?

Have her check with Custom Rebuilt Carbs in New Jersey, or Mark Smith of OEM Carbs in Texas. Both are easy to find on the web.

The carb she needs depends upon whether the car is an L-48 or L-82 and it depends upon whether it's an original California-delivered car or not. The engine suffix code will answer these questions.

My job is to locate the carburetor for her. I get a lot of calls like this and do my best to appease everyone even though on this call I am in over the head.

Right now, I can tell you this: just about any of these 1974 carbs are hard to find. The L-48 carbs were used on limited applications besides Corvette. The L-82 carbs were Corvette-only.

To make matters worse, these 1974 carbs were part of engine assemblies that had all sorts of driveability problems. The carburetors were often "hashed up" in a vain attempt to make the engine run better.

John, like Joe said, need to know if the car is L-48 or L-82, and is or is not California Emissions. The engine suffix code would tell us all we need to know. This carb http://www.ebay.com/itm/Rochester-Qu...51ed5b&vxp=mtr has a date code of E4 (May, 1974). Good luck on your search.

Mike is absolutely right. That is what I get for trying to do things from memory.

OK, here is what I got from the Black book for 350, auto cars

L-48, automatic - 7044206
L-82, automatic - 7044210
L-82, automatic, Calif emissions - 7044506

I show 9 different carbs it could be. I finally found one for my 74 LS4 with 4spd from carb junky's http://www.carbjunkys.biz/
Once you find the specifics it will be much easier to narrow it down for you.

Thanks men. I asked for more info but have no gotten a reply. I may just list to Doc Patrick and give the lady the names of the two carb guys. I didn't realize there were so many carbs for a '74. Thanks for all the help. If she gets back to me I will jump back on here. Much appreciated, JD
