Were engine stamp pads ever machined (rotary ground) and restamped at the factory assembly time?

Re: 1960 engine pad stamping
Most rotary grinding operations would require removal of the head to allow access to the surface by the tool. Never heard of such a thing. Simple identification errors on the stamp pad were corrected with a hand held burr grinder which crudely removed the old info. Engines with this type are referred to as 'grind outs'.- Top

Mike and Lynn------
I may have misunderstood the original question. I thought Lynn was referring to a grind-out using a hand held (rotary) grinder. That's the only type of grind-out I've ever seen and that's what I was referring to.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1960 engine pad stamping
This question is somewhat ambiguous. I thought maybe a milling machine as used in engine shops to deck a block was being discussed.- Top
