    Re: Car Trailers

When I went through all this last August, to make a long story short I went with Trailex enclosed. Kinda pricy, but you can also find them used, I saw one for sale on the NCRS want ads online not long ago. Excellent trailer with easy access to everything and it hooks up to my Raptor easily for towing.

Look at the bottom of this page, there will be a box there with "similar threads" written on it
inside that box are 5 threads about trailering a car plus I'm sure some will add their ideas here on your thread.
i wish I were in Florida too !

I have an open trailer . You cant beat it for easy loading ,pulling ,and parking . But if I had a "good" car I would use a enclosed trailer .

Thanks guys, I'm leaning toward an enclosed trailer. I could use the storage space. I don't have a tow vechicle so i'm still open to tag or fifth wheel.

Good to consider all options, and what fits your needs the best. I got something light, so I didn't have to buy a 3/4 truck to tow it since I wouldn't be towing it very frequently. I also settled on enclosed since the additional storage and safety factor of it sitting in a motel parking lot overnight, bad weather, bugs, etc. during the trip would be minimized. But there are lots of trade-offs with price too.

David, for safety, a fifth wheel is by far the best. Ramp down rear door is a must, barn doors are so 2000. If you are storing inside floor material is not important, but if outside, consider aluminum, plywood will rot over a period of time. All aluminum is the best but pricey. I am a firm believer in optional axles so that you can get 16" tires. With the 15's you are pretty much limited to the crappy ST rated tires at an over inflated price, 16's you can find many brands of the LT rated tires

yep with original St Louis air !!!!! nah believe the BFG are about 3-4 years old - they will be trailer tires for someone in another year or two - I just don't trust them after 6 years or so even though they only have 2-3 thousand miles per year - re trailer - buy more truck than you need and make sure to invest in good straps and lock for the trailer (I might just come and borrow it someday!)

                      Re: Car Trailers

Now that sounds good. I picked me up a low miles 94 with original tires, which they don't make anymore. And I can't fit them in the pass. seat, so I could drive to events and change the tires. So a trailering is the next best thing.

Outstanding advice. Having a tow vehicle which isn't pulling its guts out to move trailer makes all the difference in the world.

I resisted this advice for a while but eventually got a 3/4 ton Dodge with the Cummins Diesel. Wow! I can climb the grades of the Sierra Nevada mountains, loaded trailer in tow (a tag, if anyone cares), in top gear, at the speed limit. Slowpoke in front of me? Nooooo problem. Downshift, pull out, and floor it.

Buying more truck than I thought I needed was the best towing advice I ever took.

Its easy to run out of truck,a lighter trailer helps. check the hight of the fenders inside the trailer if your looking at a escape door so your car door will clear

                              David,

As Jim Lockwood mentioned the tow vehicle is one of the most critical parts of the towing equation. 1/2T vehicles frames can flex and don't have adequate brakes for an emergency situation.

There are many threads on trailers. Basic recommendations:
                              1) upgrade axles and tires - axles rating for car plus trailer weight. LT tires are much better than ST tires.
                              2) trailer tongue 3 ft minimum - this will prevent trailer sway
                              3) if enclosed, make sure the side door is low enough that you can open the car door inside the trailer rather than crawling out the window. Best to have door clearance for all Corvettes C1..C7's if possible. You never know what you might be hauling.
