Thanks Dick, I have always followed your sage advice on that and never had a problem either.

"Thanks guys, I'm leaning toward an enclosed trailer. I could use the storage space."
You can have both, but may have to have it built for you. I got lucky and ran across an old sprint car trailer. the front area has a ton of storage in three lockable compartments, as well having a fourth lockable compartment with a swing out rack that holds a loaded standard (upper roll around) tool box.
I drive my 62 wherever it goes, but it's nice to have this for picking up new projects, and I do use it once in a wile for my T bucket, which isn't a great road car .

I've since added a front railing after almost driving off the front once, also.

          Re: Car Trailers

I've been looking at trailers for my new 1954. I intend to drive it short distances of say 3-400 miles, but I am very nervous about leaving it exposed parked overnight at a motel. When I lived at Lake Tahoe I always went to Hot August Nights in Reno. Now that I have my dream classic Corvette I want to take it there and be part of what I enjoyed so much as a spectator. It's a 2000 mile drive, so I think trailering or shipping is the only way to go. There are some other events I would like to attend that seem too far to drive.

I don't understand why anyone would want an open trailer. Seems to me the primary purpose of a trailer, aside from the obvious, is to protect and hide the car from view. I'm new at this, but isn't a $100K car sitting out in the open on a trailer an invitation saying, "TAKE ME?" Maybe I'll start a thread and ask about this.

But, I digress. I really like Montrose Trailers in Michigan. Looked at several, including open types, and Montrose looks hands down to be the best. Expensive, but so is my car it will be protecting.

Don, Check out ATC trailers, They have a corvette hauler that has side doors that you can get to each wheel so you can use over the tire tie downs. Aluminum trailer, good lights, inside and out. Trailer weighs in at 3402# empty. Give Mike a Call.

              Re: Car Trailers

If I was considering a new trailer ATC would be my choice. With the left hand door, removable fender, it makes it easier to open the door on the car. With the other trailers you have to build a ramp for clearance. I am surprised that the other companies has not followed suit.

You mean you can't find new ones like this? Still have the lines and hairs...IMG_4013.JPG

Oh, I'm happy with a slope nose 20 footer w/ escape side door. Pull with a 3/4 ton diesel.

                    Re: Car Trailers

I just purchased a new Featherlite enclosed, 20', 2014. They have made excellent trailers for a long time. This one weighs in at about 3500 lbs. I want to put a wench in the front yet, and a couple of places to store all my stuff. I tow it with a Ford F-150. I leave a day early and just drive 65MPH. Look at those, you will be impressed. Dan
