Does anyone have a tutorial for the process to remove and replace a clutch on an A-6 Compressor (Pics). Didn't see anything in the service manual. Thanks!!

Re: A-6 Compressor clutch removal?
Here's the tool for remove/install. The high quality supplier is "Robinair", if you're searching.
This pic being brought to you courtesy of Photobucket, as I (and others ?) are having difficulty attaching pics using the "manage attachments" button below. The IT group (Gary Chesnut) and I are trying to work through this issue, with partial success, as I just discovered.

Wayne,
Don't mix up the distributor parts with the AC parts.
Tom,
Chose your poison:
If you want the gold class tools haunt evilBay for Kent Moore tools. The back of each section of the Chassis Overhaul Manual should have the J-xxxx numbers for all the tools. Put those numbers into your search for list on the bay and just look at your email each morning. Easy Peasy.Terry- Top

Re: A-6 Compressor clutch removal?
I found this one years ago when I rebuilt the A6 on the wife's car....
And this is a full repair tutorial written by a fine technical contributor over at corvetteforum......
C1 & C2 Corvettes - How To - Step by Step A/C Compressor Front Seal Replacement - Greetings, The A6 A/C compressor in my 65 was rebuilt by Classic Auto Air in October 2006, but by May 2008 was still slinging oil out of the front seal, and also losing Freon. I put off repairing the compressor until I had the tools...

Re: A-6 Compressor clutch removal?
Thanks for all the insight, seems I'll be shopping for some tools. I'm doing this not because I have a known leak but the compressor I have has a two groove pulley. I have another compressor with the correct puley and I want to swap them. Replacing the shaft seal is a no brainer at this point but one other concern. Are the compressor body seals typically a probelm? I don't know the history of either compressor that I have but do know they have not been in service for quite some time. Thanks!!- Top

Re: A-6 Compressor clutch removal?
Tom I've rebuilt a few A6's front ends, and never had a problem with internals or other seals. They're pretty bulletproof, except for those darn front seals spittin' oil out after the felt wick gets saturated.
edit add......but I always use new o-rings/seals on the rear manifold.

Re: A-6 Compressor clutch removal?
Tom: I also wondered about the front/rear head O-rings and both my A/C guys strongly recommended replacing them. They harden up and when the case is up to pressure -you get leakage. When I removed them, they were hard as a rock and triangular in shape. Glad I went to the effort.PM me about the Kent-Moore tools shown in the service manual. I have the full set, including the long-reach snap ring pliers and vise-mounted holding fixture.Mike- Top
