The theory is that to earn the Star or Bowtie Award the owner did nothing but bring the car -- therefore the car earned the award.
For the Mark of Excellence awards the presumption is that the owner made improvements to the car following multiple judgings -- therefor the owner had at least a hand in earning the award. Therefore the award was earned by the owner, even if the owner only signed the check.
That said, if a Bowtie car is presented for display with non-factory modifications or meaningful restoration the award can be revoked.
BTW:None of this has anything to do with whether or not the actual award plaques change hands on the sale of the car.Terry- Top
