    Counterfeit Cars

Here's another good article from this morning's Detroit News. Not really anything new but more proof to the adage "They made 300+ L-88's and all 2,000 are still out there". Just thought it was of interest.

Jeffrey, unfortunately this a sad state of affairs. I remember speaking with David Burroughs back in the 80s about L 88 Corvettes. His opinion at the time was about 10% to 15% of the remaining cars retained their original drivetrain. Fast forward 30 years and now every one thats for sale has its original engine. I'm sure that its not too different with the other hipo vettes.

Thanks to NCRS and clubs like the Shelby American club (if you're so inclined) the information is out there, just do your homework. And remember the two sayings: "If it sounds too good to be true it probably isn't.", and "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary proof."

God help a lot of Corvette owners if someone ever discovers the records that were lost when production was switched from St. Louis to Bowling Green

I'm sure the same is true for 65 396/425 and 66-67 427/390, 400, 425, &435 engines. as you know all of these are still around and original because these engines were all Baibied.

Maybe that's why they are not finding them!

You must be right They were never driven & hid away. I see more "ORIGINAL #'S MATCHING ENGINES" at a chapter meet than in the 35 years of looking at over 300 Corvettes in peoples garages & barns. Back in the day they were only faking FI Corvettes & especially 1957

At this point you have to take everything with a grain of salt.
Back in the old days I paid extra for my 1963 SWC fuelie. Above what the other 63 coupes were selling for. The $7,500 was a lot of money at the time.
I hate to admit that I used to have two other buddies with 63 coupes. A base car and a 300 if I am not mistaken.

My point:Both of their 1963 Coupes are now fuel injected.

The heart breaking part: They are both more correct than my car is.

It sounds as if many high dollar cars will be at the Mecum Kissimee auction in late January. The Proteam newsletter has some interesting thoughts on "fake", etc. etc., and on "chandelier bidding", and invites comments. They have two '63 Z06 tankers entered in the event.

This is the NCRS guys. That stands for National Corvette RESTORATION Society! Restoration is putting it back like it was when St. Louis or BG Made the Corvette!
If you can't tell the difference between an original Corvette part, motor, interior etc etc and a reproduction (fake) and a stamped motor you should pick up basket weaving!
If you purchase a fake Counterfeit Corvette you get what you deserve!!!

                    JR

PS. Michael, do you think I'll get a T-shirt for that statement?

My friend you & many others live in a dream world. NO one can tell a well done fake Corvette. That is why I trust REAL paper work more than stamp engine pads. 30 years ago people were making mountains out of mole hills. I will guaranty that that 70% of so called factory stamps were not done at the engine plant. People that think they are smarter than the people that those that do this for a living will be able to fool you or anyone else that thinks they know how to see a fake. You can live in your world but facts are facts .

                        Dear friend,

You just made friends with someone that has pushed more stamps thru the system than the average bear! Read the post again and look deeper for the point!

Being in the FI hobby for an eon I can tell you I once saw a 63 fake Carb car at a regional. Old John Bollard said to the crowd standing out in the rain at Marlborough waiting for ops to be done.
JB said hey JD. See that fake carb car over there. It used to be an FI car but some *#*# put a carb on it. Was very funny and we all laughed as the rest of the 63's were all FI's. Tru story.

And an unfortunate situation over the years I know 3 Corvettes and 4 passenger cars that had original engines and when rebuilt were decked and restamped with incorrect stampings and/or broach marks.
