    Re: 1990-1996 Glass/Plastic Corvette Headlamps

John, great photos. Thanks for your time and effort.
I have reached out to some local Corvette Clubs for some additional help to see if we can narrow down the change over time from Glass to Plastic in the 1992 model year.

Right now the change over from Glass to Plastic in the non-ZR1 models that I can document is between February and May 1992.

Again, thanks for the information and photos.

      Re: 1990-1996 Glass/Plastic Corvette Headlamps

Getting information from the Corvette Forum ZR1 Registry and all the 1990 ZR1's (7) reported have Glass Headlamps.
Last ZR1 VIN reported 1964 had Glass. This was an April Build.

Last 1990 ZR1 VIN reported to have been build was 3049.

ZR1 VIN -0080 in 1991 was show to have Wagner Plastic Headlamps.

So we still have a gap between 1964 and 3049 in 1990.

The change over Headlamp material in non ZR1 Corvettes looks like it occurred in April/May 1992.

Still getting information in and will advise when more to report.

        Re: 1990-1996 Glass/Plastic Corvette Headlamps

I thought that I would update the members on the progress of the C4 Headlamp Survey. It is still an on going survey and I would be happy to take any additional information.

All the Corvette Owner's Manuals for the period 1984 to 1996 were reviewed to determine the type of Headlamp for that year.
For the years 1984 through 1990 the Headlamp indicated was H6054. In the 1991 and 1992 Owner's Manuals there were two references.
H6054 and HP6054 for the ZR1. 1993 through 1996 showed only one reference for the Headlamp to be HP6054.

With this in mind, the limited response that I got back from my survey responses disclosed the following:

For the ZR1-The first reference that I had was from a 1990 ZR1 with VIN #164 and it had Glass Headlamps.
I had three more units with Glass Headlamps until VIN #1422, with a Feb 90 Build Date, it had had Wagner Plastic.
However, I had two more units after that with Glass Headlamps and the last one was VIN #1964 with an approximate build date of April 1990. After VIN #1964 approximately 1085 ZR1's were made in 1990. I have no information for that group. If Glass Headlamps were utilized throughout this reporting period, VIN # 1422 could have been a replacement Headlamp. Without information from this missing group, I can only speculate.

In 1991, I have ZR1 VIN #80 with Wagner Plastic Headlamps and an additional 11 units with Wagner Plastic for the model year of 1991. I have no additional references to Glass Headlamps for the ZR1 after VIN #1964 in 1990. It appears that the change over took place sometime during the period that I have no references. This information is consistent with the Owner's Manuals references to the type of Headlamp. Additionally, I have a 1991 ZR1 with Wagner Plastic Headlamps that was designated for Canadian Export.

        For Non ZR1 Units,
I have Glass Headlamps from 1984 until February 1992. Then starting in May 1992 I then have a number of Plastic Sylvania Headlamps reported.
My first Plastic Wagner Headlamp was reported in October 1993. All Headlamps after October 1993 were reported as Plastic Wagner.

As I stated this is a work in process survey and I would be happy to take any additional information.

          Re: 1990-1996 Glass/Plastic Corvette Headlamps

Folks, here is the latest update on the Glass/Plastic Headlamps for the ZR1 only.
The last Glass Headlamp that I could find belonged to 1990 ZR1 VIN # 1990 with an approximate Build Date of Mar/Apr 1990.
The first Plastic Wagner Headlamp that I could find belonged to 1990 ZR1 VIN 2320 with an approximate Build Date of May 1990.
The below photo is of the Plastic Wagner Headlamp off of ZR1 VIN 2320. This ZR1 was photographed prior to any dealer prep and I think that it did not receive any dealer prep as it was being sold a couple of years ago with 25 miles on the odometer.
For discussion sake it appears the change over from Glass to Plastic Headlamps took place in Apr/May 1990. I did not find any Glass Headlamps after VIN 2320.
This information has been passed onto the National Team Leader for the 1990-96 Group.
I want to thank everyone who has sent me photos/data for this survey.
If you have a 1990 ZR1 in between the above VIN's please help us out by sending my your information.

            Re: 1990-1996 Glass/Plastic Corvette Headlamps

I have narrowed down the time frame for the conversion on the ZR1 Headlamps from Guide Glass to Wagner Plastic.
The last Guide Glass I have was reported on 1990 ZR1 VIN #1990 and before that VIN #1964 also was Glass, with build dates of April/May 1990..
The first Wagner Plastic Headlamp that was reported was on a 1990 ZR1 VIN #2124, Build Date of early May 1990. The next Wagner Plastic was ZR1 1990 VIN # 2320. I did not have any Glass Headlamps on the ZR1 after VIN #2124.

Therefore we have narrowed the conversion down to 134 units in April/May 1990.

I was contacted by two individuals with early 1990 ZR1's who thought they had the wrong headlamps because they had Guide Glass units instead of Plastic. They both kept the Glass Headlamps. One individual sent me photos of the Glass Guide Headlamps.
I received a lot of support from the ZR1 Registry who contributed a great deal to the ZR1 headlamp question.
Thanks again to everyone who make a contribution.

                  Re: 1990-1996 Glass/Plastic Corvette Headlamps

Ed, thanks for the response. Your 1990 ZR1 VIN#1990, build date of April
1990 is the last 1990 ZR1 that I have found with Guide Glass Headlamps.

The first 1990 ZR1 that I found with Plastic Wagner Headlamps is VIN # 2124,
no build date available. The next response that I have with Wagner Plastic
on the 1990 ZR1 was VIN # 2282 with a build date of May 1990.

I had twenty responses from the 1990 ZR1 owners alone.

Your time and effort is greatly appreciated and the change over period is
pretty narrowly defined with your help and the rest of the individuals who
                  took time to respond.

The non ZR1's are a different story. The change over was sometime in Feb/May
1992 when the change over from Glass to Plastic was first noted. The last
Glass Headlamp response that I had was in February 1992. The next three
responses that I had were for Plastic Headlamps during May 1992 and they
were Sylvania Headlamps. The first response I had for a Wagner Plastic
Headlamp was late in the 1992 model year.

In the responses that I received, Headlamps after the 1992 model year were
Wagner Plastic for ALL Corvettes, except for a response that I received
stating the owner had Glass Headlamps in late 1994. No explanation for this
                  finding.
So anyone with a 1992 LT1 who wants to chime in with their responses,
especially in the change over period. please help us out.

Pat, sorry to get in on this so late but I just saw it.
My '93 Coupe VIN #4147 built in Oct. '92 has plastic but one of each with a Sylvania on the left side and a Wagner on the right. These are the original lamps. The judging manual does mention some cars having both.

Charles, thanks for your information. Your situation sort of falls in line in what I had in my data base. All the plastic headlamps that I had for 1992 were Sylvania (Except for one Wagner) and all the plastic headlamps I had for 1993 were Wagner. I only have a small data base for these plastic headlamps, but I do appreciate your information. Is there any way you can post a photo of each plastic headlamp on this forum or send to me at fulassoc@comcast.net? I know it is difficult sometimes to photograph these headlamps because of the reflections. I want to pass this information along to the National Team Leader for the 90-96 Group.

                      Thanks in advance.

                        Pat,
Here are some photos and a bit of additional information. The left hand Sylvania lamp has the "2B1 sealed beam" lettering raised. The DOT, USA and Wagner Halogen are all embedded in the glass. The right hand Wagner has no place of origin, only DOT. All of the lettering on this beam is embedded. My car is an LT1 Coupe built in Oct. 8, 92.

Here are some additional photos. I pulled the headlights and looked for date codes. The Sylvania on the left side has a date code of 062292. The wagner doesn't have a discernible code but is marked in red with ":28 23". This is on the opposite side of the Wagner markings. The name side has G2 below the name and part number.
I bought this car as a program car from Chevrolet so they were the original owner. It had a direct shipment from the plant to the Warren Mich. Engineering Center as shown on both the window sticker and the build sheet. I have never determined what it's use was. Warranty history shows no headlamp issues.
