From what I can see, these look like the ends might have been cut off, but I have no idea why. St. Louis would not have done it; they would have had no reason to do so.

If they're not cut off, it does not necessarily mean a repop, though. Later GM SERVICE pieces (and, possibly, also later PRODUCTION pieces as the emblems were used through early 1977) were configured slightly different and had only 3 shorter studs. There may even have been several iterations over the years since these were available in SERVICE for MANY years.

They were always secured by an adhesive backing. However, the configuration of the backing (and the emblem, itself) changed over the years. If an original emblem is re-used, then some type of "replacement adhesive" must be used. For all practical purposes, the adhesive is a "one-time use only" sort of thing. Of course, with emblems with the longer studs, push nuts could be used to secure the emblems in lieu of adhesive.

By the way, while the configuration of the emblem changed over the years, the part number never changed. It was always GM #3956216.

Marks photos are of originals. If you pulled off the cloth protectors you would see an adhesive that looks like it was applied out of a tube, not the die cut black stuff on the three post GM replacements. The stud configuration on the repro 4 post is also not typical.
