    70 Gas cap

Is there a simple way to restore/replate/clean-up this cap at home or do I need to send it to Joe Perri?

On second thought should I leave the patina?

    TIA,
    Mike

Mike, I would restore, unless your going for bowtie award. the gas cap has 18 pts. between originality and condition. you will get all the originality pts. but loose a few on condition. You want the dull Zinc finish.

Before you send it off, let it soak in Evaporust for a few hours. Yea, I know it's not rusty, but Evaporust will help clean it up and get some of the corrosion off.

You could try to clean it up. However, I wouldn't use any solution which was acidic in nature (i.e. pH <7.0). That will remove the zinc plating.

Also, I'd keep this cap just for judging. For other times, just obtain and use a GM #3994339. Original gas caps have a way "disappearing".
