i'd guess your(mike johnson's) mast jacket is a 63 which used a directional signaler down on the column like a corvair. mike

Thanks Mike, no mention of any of this in the TIM&JG, but maybe the earlier '64s still used left over '63 parts.

Hi Michael, My '64 has a December 13, 1963 build date and has the hole just like they mention in this thread. Doug

Thanks, I guess you also have the slotted, indented section on the bottom of the steering tube too?

Yep, all of that stuff, so what your column has may not be unique to early cars.

Right, in fact it must be a reproduction or service replacement, just not sure why they wouldn't have made it more similar to the original. But guess that is why we all try to get originals to restore.

On a 63 corvette the hole Alan mentions at 11 1/4" down is used to secure a clip that retains the directional signal cable and horn wire, it's definitely not a small hole.

After reading this post it seems like the early 64 used the left over 63 mast jacket.

OK a few measurements - In post #9, the first picture is a close up of the driver's end that I refer to as the top. That hole is 11 7/16" down from end (of tabs), it is a .213" hole.
The bottom hole is 180 degrees (opposite) from the top hole, is 3" from bottom (engine end) & is .275"
The mast jacket, original, is from a Mar64 car, sn13,000 - not an early left over.

                  The 63 is pn 3824102
                  The 64 in pn 3841552 with NPC-418, both in Sec9 sheet 9.00
