    The original finish, I believe (it is those pesky 1968s that give me pause), dark phosphate. this color can range from gray to black, but it has the sparkles in it. Paint will fool some of the people some of the time, but not the NCRS judges.

        Steve,

        Contact Bill Hodell at billhodel@sbcglobal.net That email may be dated but he advertises in the Driveline. He is the smog pump supplier to a large number of NCRS cars. Highly recommended.

          Give an IM to member Grant Wong.
          He sells parkerizing solution - I use it on all of the hood latch mechanism and the metal toe board heat shields.
          it is fairly dark in color (manganese) - you can also darken by using a cold dip blackening solution (black oxide) prior to the hot dip in the parkerizing stuff.

              Hi Steve;
              I purchased a parkerizing concentrate from a local gun shop, as per the instructions mixed with distilled water and heated the solution with a hot plate, worked great on the smog pulley and hood catches.
