Excellent Seminar at Pro Team 11-9-2013.

The seminar sponsored by the Michigan and Heart of Ohio NCRS chapters on Sat Nov. 9th was excellent.
Moderated by Werner Meier the participants, mostly retired GM Engineers did an excellent job of presenting information on the GM Mark IV engine development and the RPO L88 vehicle.
The display cars were fantastic along with a wide variety of Corvettes from Pro Teams inventory.
The seminar was a real look at GM's history by the people who made it.
Thanks to the 2 NCRS chapters, the participants and Pro Team.

Bruce: Thanks for the report. Was there any "new news" on any history of the past?? How much was discussed on the M22? Thanks; Larry

            Larry,
There was considerable discussion on the M22, unfortunately there were no handouts of the documentation .
Lots of info on the Mark IV engine development including dyno test info. I am not a big block guy so lots of it went over my head.
Al Grenning, Ken Kayser and Dave McLennan did great presentations and the discussion panel was very informative with lots of first hand stories.
            Everyone involved should be complimented.
Hopefully some othe more knowledgeable people can add to this info.

I was at Pro Team inspecting a car on the 8th. Wish I could've stayed for the event. I did stick 20 doughnuts in my pockets on the way out the door. Terry never even suspected...

Did they show any PowerPoint slides that can be converted to pdf and put on the Web?

Excellent training and judging on fuel injection, big block engines and the L88 plus the learning from the discussion panel.
Unique cars to study corvette engines and paint (Ballard had several sessions on the side) Al's session should/could be put
on CD for chapter training. A real learning experience; go next year if it is offered again...

Thanks for all the neat pictures. I have been to several of these types of seminairs with Al. It always seems that
the one given after the last one alway have a few "New Tidbits". Enjoyed them very much. Seems like there is always
something else learned as time goes by. Larry

And to think our most cherished '67-'69 L88 Corvettes could be blown away by today's showroom stock Mustangs and Camaros on the road course or drag strip. Boy things have come a long way. And that is nothing compared to what the new Corvettes can do.

Gene, you sound like the guys over at the other forum Seriously though I think that we all know that the old Corvettes are no match for the newer performance cars. It's no longer about that. My Honda accord can probably blow away a Ferrari 250 GTO but it will never be as special as a GTO. I think the same can be said for the vintage SHP Corvettes.

I guess I like the old stuff more for what it looks like and what the memories were at the time....... Not so much a matter of what engine was in it unless your going to race it. After all L88 was not for the street. It was supposed to be a track only engine. My post was to only point out that race engine in the day are lesser performance than showroom cars of today. And how time has progressed. So don't get all up tight.

But the Ferrari and honda thing sounds a bit much!

Yeah Steve, lighten up, like Gene.

Tell you one place that L88 will blister all those other cars mentioned...the auction stage.
