    year of hardtop?

Any way to tell the year of a hardtop? Just wondering if there are any markings or stamps to designate year for a 68-75? Thanks for your input. Steve

Date on the window, perhaps? 1968, at least early in production, did not have the bright rear tips, and the early front latches had a different configuration than later latches. Early 1968 roof latches used an acorn nut in contact with the body; later used a rubber pad. Check the TIM&JG for approximate change point.

You may find date stamps on the backsides of the upholstered pieces.

Terry any information on when the 1968 model year stopped using the acorn nut and started using a rubber pad? Also the bright rear tips on the 68's hardtop, when did they begin?

          Jim,
I would have to look in the new TIM&JG and I don't have a copy here at work.

Jim, the manual says rear tips were added sometime during July 1968. I didn't work on that section so I don't know if this is new info or if it was in the old JG. It also says that acorn nuts were used in 1968 and rubber pads in 1969. That probably is too vague, but no research was done for that.

TIMJG has the bright protective trim tips occurring during July 68

Letter codes on the glass in the lower left corner, also seen crayon writing on the inside of the top under the interior liner. 68 also has 1/4" rear bow pins.

Would the crayon writing be a vin or what? Just bought a hardtop last night and was wondering how to date it. No headliner in it, but I didn't see any obvious writing. Will check the glass for date. Thanks Steve
