I recently bought a '63 coupe that has P235R60-15 tires on 7" wheels. Stance looks good, but I am concerned with the size of the tires. Has anyone used this compination of wheel and tires? What is the largest wheel and tire combination that I can feel comfortable with? Thanks for your help.

Re: 63 non stock wheels
John,
IMO, they are to wide and I would be very careful that they don't rub the frame or fender at full lock and be very careful going over bumps like a driveway that they don break the fender. I know the 60 series tire is shorter so check carefully.- Top

John,
Do a search, this has been discussed multiple times on the TDB.

Re: 63 non stock wheels
There's a HUGE dimensional difference between 215/65's and 235/60's; my '69 Z/28 had 235/60 T/A's on it when I bought it, and rubbed both front wheel openings at 12 o'clock when turning; I replaced them with 215/65 T/A's (which are exactly the same size as the original E70-15's) and a) It doesn't rub any more, and b) It looks correct.- Top

Re: 63 non stock wheels
John and Rick, I know that the 235s are too big. I have been researching the 215/65's. My final concern is the 7" rims that I have with the 235s. I'm thinking that I need to find a set of 6" rims to make the 215/65s work. Your input will be appreciated! Rick, what size rims are you running with the 215/65s? Stock ralleys? Or what?- Top

Re: 63 non stock wheels
I run 225/75 on stock 5.5 rims and no rub on the back with just a bit on the front inside frame when locked. I don't lock them up often on turns and have no fiberglass breaking problems. I like how they handle on mountain passes and stop with the ceramic brakes. It's a good life!
