    The 65-66 steering shaft

Anybody have a 63, 64, 65, or 66 steering shaft out of the car to give me a length. I looked in the papers on the Corvette steering columns but they cover only 67 and newer. It shows on page 6 the 67 shaft as 37.57 inches.
    thank you

I'm curious if the standard column has a different length than the tele column since the standard coupler is longer than the tele coupler.

The standard 1963-66 Corvette shaft is 37 inches overall. The 1965-66 tele column shaft is 35 5/8 min. and 39 3/8 max.

Not that it means an awful lot but the engineering drawing for the 5694271 1965-66 Corvette telescoping column shows overall steering shaft length:
            Extended 38.665 inches
            Retracted 35.665 inches
There is a screw 5694806 that is threaded into a weldnut on the steering column jacket. The nose of the screw fits throught the jacket and into a slot in the upper steering column tube and basically controls the amount of stroke of the telescope feature. According to the engineering drawing the stroke is exactly 3.00 inches. Not nearly 4 inches as indicated above. I wonder if the bare steering shaft will telescope on itself by nearly 4 inches whereas the actual steering column steering shaft telescoping distance is only 3 inches.

              Jim,
The measurement for the tele column was a bare shaft without it being in the tube or without the rod in the upper center. Just the bare shaft full extended and fully retracted
