Re: Accurate, to date, NCRS Award Statistics

Don't know about anybody else, but when it comes to volunteer-based groups I make it a habit of offering my services to help out where I can before considering asking that they take on additional tasks. This would be especially true if it seems that I would be the only one that wants it done.

Re: Accurate, to date, NCRS Award Statistics

It has been about only one month since we had many postings regarding negativity and being respectful - I think many people got their point across on this posting. I would think that many people are working real hard in many areas ( paid or unpaid ) to do the best they can for the good of the NCRS. I know that people also have a right to make a request and at some time expect a reply. Why don't we have someone pick a winner concerning this posting and move on. IMHO

Just a small remark: Most of the requested figures published for years already on www.NCRS.org/awards.html and are real time taken from the NCRS award database...

click on any of these items for NCRS awards information:

I still have 24 outstanding Requests for Changes and working on 7 open issues, so don't worry, we have enough on our plates (and that is besides our day to day work to prevent hacks and ensure all is well with our website, shop, membership handling, judging point handling, car awards handling and general event creation and handling). O, and did I mention helping all our chapters with their IT business when the needs some additional IT expertise???

Did I mention I'm running a business next to that as well and are often weeks abroad to help our major banks fighting of hackers worldwide??? Still 22 year to retirement...

Restoring the Corvette's? Not much time for that anymore lately...

Re: Accurate, to date, NCRS Award Statistics

Earlier today, I sent Kevin a PM. I understand the workload placed upon the volunteer IT crew, and appreciate all they do. However, regarding this thread, I have a counterpoint view, and expressed it in the PM. Here is a re-do based on that PM, altered for a wider audience, that expresses my view.

Very early in my NCRS involvement I remember walking by Kevin's gold car in the Ops-Check lot at Boston in 06 smelling gas, and suggesting he hit the carb with a screwdriver handle to un-stick the float. That was our first contact. I remember thinking "nice car" and assUming it was a restoration. Then later walking the show floor looking at the cars with Carla, and seeing the "Bowtie Candidate" in his windshield, taking a closer look, and realizing how special that car was/is. Such began a friendship I still cherish.

Over 1.3 Million Corvettes have been produced. Any NCRS Award Car is special compared to a car without one. Among NCRS cars, certain awards, and combination of awards in various years, divisions, etc will have different appeal and grading to an individual depending on their personal perceptions, desires, and tastes. I'm a C4 guy. Our Crossed Flags award is similar to a Dutntov/Bowtie, in that it requires a McClellan or Hill to even be considered for Originality Judging. BUT. There are some C4 Crossed Flag cars that were less than 20 years old at the time of their award. Kevin's car was almost twice as old, was produced with much less durable finishes and techniques, and had sustained twice the exposure to the ravishes of time and pitfalls of storage, when it was evaluated to be the 'equivalent' of a car half its age. Because of these differences in the cars, I "grade" Kevin's Duntov/Bowtie gold car at a higher "level" of the, in my opinion, exceptional handful of NCRS cars that I've personally had the pleasure of enjoying because their owners brought them out to share with me. I understand Kevin's desire to uncover exactly how many Corvettes meet this dual standard of achievement.

I too am curious as to how many of the 1.3 Million Corvettes produced, that are 40, 50, and now 60 years old, have been blessed with the care and preservation that Kevin's gold car has received, and have the distinction of both the NCRS Duntov/Bowtie Awards as recognition. While the number of Duntovs, Bowties, and Crossed Flags cars are real-time tabulated, there is no tabulation of the number of cars that have received BOTH the Duntov and Bowtie Awards. I don't understand the negativity and reaction towards, and the [seemingly] failure to recognize the nature of his request, which in my mind is simple curiosity, and which is of interest to many of us that recognize how unique a car with both of these awards is. We tabulate the achievement for the C4's. Why not for the older cars too?

              Respectfully,
              Dave P

80 cars... (with at least 1 star)

                  Dave,

Are you asking how many unrestored cars have achieved Bowtie and Duntov without being restored?

If that's your question - then NCRS does not have that information.

Have seen C1 Bowtie non 5 Star cars where the owner or new owner decided to restore and Duntov.
