    72 Vacuum Hose Spaghetti Routing

My 72 vacuum system has me totally confused, I've seen all the "expert" schematic pictures and diagrams ( I think I have them all ) but they are not telling where the vacuum hoses & tubes are actually routed. What goes through the firewall and what does not ? Where and when are they hung/mounted ? And what do they attach to ? Vacuum tank to Headlights are no problem. It's the firewall, AHVC and it's counsel controls and headlight switch that has me guessing! Most of my problem stems from not taking enough photos when I took everything apart. Thanks for any info the members may impart my direction. Rey Stenhouse, 72 LS 502 Coupe

Ray, when you look at the vacuum lines in the AIM it will give you all the details of which hose is first and even tell you the colors for the headlight hoses, and tape placement. just keep in mind the hoses on 72 were neat and stacked on top of each other. If I new how to post pic.s I would. My 72 has the hoses placed perfectly, and are the originals.

I would look up the pages if I were home with my AIMs, but I am far away having car fun. Do you suppose the 502 will make a difference?

Hi Terry, I hope so. My only regret is that I bought this create motor before the 572 was available, I would love to have one of the 720 Hp. versions, awesome street(?) engine.

Yes, you need to take 3, 4 or 10 times the number of photos you think you will need BEFORE you take it apart. Or alternately you could do like I do and spend a lot of money and time and have the fun of traveling to a National Convention and then YOU could take all the photos you want.

More soon. BTW: There were 3 1970-1972 LS5 Bowtie cars presented today. I do not know their awards. I should also caution you this is just ONE 1972 LS5 example. There may have been changes in the vacuum hose routing over the course of 1972 production. I still believe the AIM will have ALL the information you need, but I know there are many photo collectors out there.

                    Rey,

I have a very original 72, LS-5 car. If you get to the point where you can tell me exactly what area you need a picture of, I can take them for you.

Under the hood that is. I have a few pictures of interior hoses, but I will have to dig to see what I can find.

Hi Terry, I have learned my lesson albeit a bit late. One of the issues that has me confused is in comparing the AIM color coding with Dr. Rebuild's vacuum schematic color coding. The two do not match up. Witch would be the preferable, AIM or some other ? Thanks for all your help. Rey Stenhouse, 72 LS-502 coupe

Which detail in particular? The rear of the headlight switch?

I am pretty sure there are some mistakes in the AIM. I know there are some mistakes in the electrical wiring diagram, and there is no reason the vacuum diagram should be any different. I found the vacuum system works best with its original components untouched.

Dr Rebuild has one of the connections reversed.

When I get home later today I will look up exactly which one it is and make a note of it for you.

                              Rey,

I know it may not be a ton of help, but the two hoses that connect to the main headlight switch are backwards on the Dr Rebuild 71-72 Headlamp and Wiper Drawing.

Another source is the Mid-America "Troubleshooting The 1968-1982 Corvette Headlight and Windshield Wiper Door Vacuum System" It is four or five pages of "If this is happening, Try ........" and then a few drawings in the back.

I do not have a copy in PDF to upload for you.

Just a thought. Maybe someone else has a PDF of it.

Again, if you nee a specific picture, let me know,
