Flywheel to Pressure Plate Mount Bolts

Hi all,

Does anyone know if the bolts that mount the clutch pressure plate to the flywheel for a C1 are Grade 5 or Grade 8? I've got 5's, but I'll have to go out to get the 8's.

I believe they are grade 5 and have a special shoulder. I think they are still available from GM.

Bob, Clutch pressure plate to flywheel bolts are grade 5, Flywheel to crankshaft bolts are grade 8.

I think Tim is right. The pressure plate to flywheel bolts are unique to that application. The bolts have a slightly larger diameter shoulder in the unthreaded portion. Look in group 0.863 or 0.864 (?) in the parts book.
They're not unique to Corvette though and should be easy to find. In fact, they may still be available from GM.

My 1957 & 1963 Chev. parts catalogs list GM # 839756 as the part number for the flywheel bolts (7/16"-20 X 1"). These bolts have 6 radial line segments on the bolt head (grade 8).

Yup - also ARP #130-2201 (pack of 6); pressure plate bolts all have a precision-sized shank below the head to accurately register the PP to the flywheel (bolt on the right in photo below). DO NOT use full-threaded conventional bolts (bolt on left) regardless of its strength rating.
