HEI ignition system from 70's chevy to 57 283

Does anyone have any experience in adapting a HEI ignition system from the mid 1970's Chevy's to use in a C1 car? What problems were encountered? Was any improvement noticed? I have the dual point system that I had rebuilt when I rebuilt the engine. Thanks, Ted

measure the distance from the back side of the original style distributor cap to the firewall. measure the radius of the hei dist cap. there may well be interference. mike

Change out the distributor gear from your 283's distributor to the HEI. Adjust end play if needed. One wire hookup to full time 12 volts. Using HEI in my 1970 since I installed a ZZ1 GM crate engine in early 90's with no problems.
