    Re: Corvette Clutch Throwout bearing

I think you've done it correctly. Just slide the bearing over the yoke. Don't bend the spring steel tabs up to install it. Once the trans is installed the bearing slides on the sleeve and can't dislodge.

This was a common mistake. I'm recall John Hinckley posted a photo of the right and wrong way to install the bearing on the clutch fork. Maybe someone remembers where it is or downloaded it and can upload to this thread.

One other question....there is a "ridge" on the bearing where it rides on the fork. (Perpendicular to the bearing face) should that be placed inside the fork?

The illustration of the correct and incorrect throwout bearing installation is already in the following nearby thread, post #3.

Jerry, I did a dry fit with a throw out bearing and the fork about two years ago before I installed it. It did not fall off. When on the fork it was a hard pull to get it off. Try another bearing, see if you can find and original part.

              Harry,

I have the one I took out and it fit just as loose as the new one. The car operated fine last year when I drove it quite a bit without any shifting problems. I also thought that it should not be that loose, but the old one which was loose worked just fine.. Crazy
