Looking For Opinions '66 L72 Stamp Pad

Looking at this L72 and have only been able to obtain iffy pad pictures but wanted to try posting here to see if anyone could offer an opinion on real deal vs run-forrest-run. Obviously photos are not adequate for good eval and I would certainly seek Al G opinion (or ask the seller to) if I proceed here, but other people are after this car and I was hoping to get any initial thoughts here at NCRS. Thank you for your time

Click the photo, then click lower right corner of photo border on the magnify + icon, then go down to lower right corner and click magnify icon again, this takes the link to high res photo, thanks.

I am dubious about the 6,3 and I in the Tonowanda stamp and the 2 in the VIN stamp. Hopefully there are other characteristics like the original TI harness to indicate that this a real L-72.

Yes it has all the usual L72 item such as TI dizzy, harness, amp, all the usual big block only findings, but it has had a body-off so all that can be changes and all the TI can be added so at some point it gets down to the stamp pad, real or not. I have seen the VIN tag and it appears real and is this number. Thanks for your input!

It would be a lot more convincing if it had the original TI harness with the slightly frayed white woven insulation rather than the repro with white plastic insulation. Are all the wires new or just the TI wiring? Does it have an original rear with at least a 3.70 ratio? If the only proof is the stamp pad, I think the proof is in the wrong direction.

Judging from the picture of the pad there are two obvious errors in the restoration of this Vette! Also, if Boyd is not happy with the numbers I would run from the sale of this Corvette.

Too bad he scraped the paint off rather than removing it in a different manner. Now you have to wonder what he did to the surface of it....

This is a maroon vert, black interior, correct per trim tag which does look proper (to me). It is a highly optioned car, and I noted J56 brakes that the seller did not even know about. The proportioning valve and lines are in the right place and the front calipers have the stiffeners that are J56 only. I can't speak to further specs of it as only have gleaned things from pics. It is a Top Flight and B-Gold car but again, that can be done without correct stamp pad. Stuff like J56 could certainly have been added but it looks real. Last judging was in 2010. I am trying to see if judging documents are available. As to the wiring question, from what I can see, it looks like a prior total resto included new wiring. TI wiring in pics looks all replaced stuff. No idea what tag is on the dizzy, if it is 093 or not, or what date. No idea what carb is etc. Obviously need more/better pad pictures, but the one I posted can be enlarged quite a bit, and sure has that older-than-dirt look to it, but as noted above, sure wished someone had not been scraping at it. To Boyd's other question, yes have good photo of diff, appears to be original and correct appearing with appropriate date for this car and it is a 3:70 ratio. So I am liking the car overall but all that 'stuff' can be added or changed, hoping for more opinions on this stamp pad. Could be the real deal but what say you? Thanks all for your thoughts and opinions!

                    Don,

When enlarged the pad is a little easier to see. The T05I3 IP and vin look okay to me (nothing obvious out of place) and the the condition of the pad around the edges where it hasn't been scratched getting the paint off looks like it should to me too. Broach marks appear very faint at the top edge. It is too bad they didn't use a different method to get the paint off. FWIW.

Does the owner have the judging sheets? Chapter event, Regional, or Nationals? Award verification been done?

                    Good luck!

Hi Rob, yes that was my estimate as well, enlarged quite a bit the pad looked OK to me, too bad about the scraping etc, need better photos etc. Am going to try for Al G evaluation as this car is starting to speak to me! I am trying to get judging sheets, all I know now is 2nd flight in 2007, top flight in 2010 (SE NCRS Spring Tour Meet) so that must be chapter (?) and B-Gold in 2007, no info on verification award. Thanks for you thoughts!

Don, for the record you can take Pat Boyd's opinion to the bank, he offered it for free, spending all the money in the world for other opinions does not change what may be fact.

No disrespect and I'm sure Patrick's opinion is valuable, however the stamp may be worth a second look (enlarged as suggested by the OP) ..... as there isn't a 6 at all in the Tonowanda stamp. It's a 5.

Yes Rob, as I had mentioned above, the photo I posted allows several steps of enlargement, the final high-res link is available to view, the T stamp is T0513IP there is no 6 in there are suggested in another post. The car's Trim Tag indicates St. Louis body build June 07, 1966. Again, thanks for all input!
