Does anyone sell the tachometer cable without the sheathing? All I can find is the cable assembly.

Re: 63 tachometer cable
Not sure I understand your question. Are you looking for the inner cable? if yes, you can have one made at a local shop. The 63 Tach cable came in two lenghts. There was one inch difference. No matter what cable you have the inner cable extends about 3/4 inch at the tach end and 1/4 inch at the tach end. Any longer and you get funny noises and run the risk of destroying the tach.

Re: 63 tachometer cable
Perry, The inner cable is not typically available by itself.
Harry said you have to have one made. Good luck on that project though. In my town the old stores that made cables and brake hoses are long gone. John- Top

Re: 63 tachometer cable
I am finding that out. In a city as big as Seattle, you would think that somebody would make them but apparently not. Guess I will have to purchase an assembly and hope that the cable is compatable with my casing.- Top

Re: 63 tachometer cable
Get an accurate measurement of your cable, do not include the round nuts that attach it to the tach and the gauge. When you post that maybe some of us could look around after we figure what you need. As I said there are two different length original 63 tach cables, possibly 3 so we need to know how long the case is to build an inner cable.

Re: 63 tachometer cable
Pictured is my broken cable. It is, I mean was, 22 1/4'' long from end to end with the furrel at 15/16'' from one end. With the gasket installed on the cable it measured exactly 1'' from the end to the outside of the gasket. I haven't pulled the casing out of the car to get the exact length of it.Attached Files- Top

Re: 63 tachometer cable
I remember years ago you could buy a inner cable for the speedometer cable. It was a cut to match. and had a aluminum end that had to be crimped to the cable, some research you may find one still a round. you'll need a good style crimping tool so it will hold the end and use a small amount of JB weld on the crimped end.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: 63 tachometer cable
The subject has been a recurrent problem over the years, lots of threads here.
And here are some of the problems -
63 1st design, all 6409130 L= 25 1/8 ref: 65, 69, &72 Parts Book
63-64 2nd design 6409507 L=22 1/8 ref: 63 July P&A
63-67 6476986 L=24 1/8 casing L=23 ref:72 Parts cat
64 3844016 L=?? ref:64 AIM, 67 Body Vol, service replace 3/66 to 66126
65-67 3866126 L=24 1/8 casing L=23 ref:65 AIM,65P&A30,
The cable lengths are all over the place depending upon just what year/month the car was built. It appears that the 24 1/8 was the final service part.- Top

Re: 63 tachometer cable
Harry,
I believe that you will find the 64 cables white in color and after 49 years of use in heat and oil they may seem a little beige. Maybe a lot beige! They were not beige! Those are just the old ones.

Re: 63 tachometer cable
Sorry Harry & all, most of the numbers I posted are for the CABLE and not the casing however if a casing length was available its noted as casing L=xx, so its the number after the word casing. Those numbers before the word casing that are listed L=xx are for the bare metal cable.
Now the casing color for the tachometer; do not have good data as of yet on colors. Just to keep things confusing my Mar64 FI has an original casing, its Black! The 65FI at the Regional (looking all original) also had a black casing.- Top
