Re: 63 quarter panel prepped for air scoops

Until this thread, I never heard that Z06/N03 quarter panels were different. Can someone enlighten me as to the differences?

    Thanks,
    Mike

all mid-year no3 tankers were assembled with yellow(some refer to them as white) quarter panels that had a portion of their lips removed. they also had a unique part #. mike

          Ron,

That looks like a genuine N03 tank car. The way the filler housing is attached is usually a good clue. There are a lot more clues but that's a good start.

If the 36.5 gallon tank is original, and it looks like it is, your car was most likely originally a Z06. If the special brakes are missing, that wouldn't be a surprise. They weren't exactly a good thing for the street. Did someone replace the brake drums and backing plates before you owned the car?

Thanks Mikey, armed with that info, now I can turn my black car into an "undetectable" zo6 convertible.....it'll be one of zero...

I purchased the car in 1968. Not sure if the frame is original to the car. Had Z06 shocks when I bought the car, which I still have, but of a later date than November as the car.

Ron -- if you're referring to Mike M's post # 18, the part #'s of the tanker rear quarter panels are: 3832441 and 2 (left and right). Problem is, I can't find these #'s in the P&A30 Gr 12.940, and I suspect they never existed at the dealer level. Neither is there any parts history. I guess they assumed you could use the standard quarters (#3797019 - 20) and trim accordingly, per view "C" of the instructions, below.

                      Wayne,

I have the original print for the 3832441 1/4/fender panel for the Z06/N03 option. Of interest is the 5-10-63 date on the print. Could there have been an earlier part/number or could this mean that cars built earlier than this date may not have the modified panels?
There are two other part numbers on the print, 3830691-2 RH/LH that may have been an earlier similar version of the panels before some minor revision.

The only difference between the production panel and the N03 panel is the partial removal of the lip for a span of aprox 10" on the forward section of the wheel opening.

There's also supposed to be a 12" length of round something (3719424) bonded into the back side as a reinforcement for the remaining section of trimmed flange. No description of the part though. The tube was to bonded in place with 3711175 cement.

I think I tried to research the 3719242 number several years ago but no records existed.

The area of flange removal/trim shown on the print doesn't agree completely with the drawing on the sheet that you posted.

None, when I bought the car in 68, it had front bumpers removed and holes filled in, 427 hood, fuel injected motor replaced, fuel injected badges removed and holes filled in, side pipes without covers, chrome reverse wheels, bright blue metallic paint replaces the Sebring silver original, front fenders shaved slightly at the upper lip
