          Terry,

I'm not sure on this but I believe the last year clear mats were available was 68? Starting in 69, the accessory book shows black. Is it possible that you received a set that was in stock at the dealer? I have the part number here somewhere.

The mats for 68 were different than 63-67.

Has anyone been able to age or yellow the current repros?

              Mike,

Short answer is I don't know. Long answer:
I know the clear mats don't show in the 1970 Accessory Manual. The salesman (dealer owner) and I went around about that when I bought the car. I thought black was a poor choice with a bright blue interior. I don't know if they were in his stock, if he got them through another dealer, or on the street corner. I did all the paperwork and gave him the down stroke for the car 2/15/1970 (more or less). At that time we had the discussion about the floor mats. But due to the weather I didn't want to take delivery of the car. He put it in the show room, front & center. When the end of the month came around I still didn't want to take delivery (the weather still sucked), but he said take it or leave it. On 2/29/1970 (yes 1970 was a leap year) I took the car and the mats. I can dig out the bill of sale from the bank vault. I remember the charge on there for the mats. Maybe he put a part number on there; might that help?.

The other question is why would there be any difference in the floor profile from 1968 to 1970, or for much later for that matter? There is a huge passenger side difference from manual to M40, but that is another story.

                Thanks Terry,

Always interesting to talk with original owners.

I have some of the dealer accessory booklets with part numbers here, somewhere. I'll see if I can dig them out later this evening.

I agree, the clear mats looked better than black.

                  Terry,

I looked in a 68 and 69 accessory book and the part number, 987441, is shown for both years. Unfortunately, I don't have any info for 1970.
The description for the mats is "Clear Vinyl".

I wonder if 1970 was the first year for black?

The part number for the clear vinyl mat set for 63-67 is 985882.

Ralph seemed to take notice of my M40 comment, but I really don't wish to turn this into a C3 discussion because the original topic is focused on C2s -- and a future search for C3 information will have difficulty turning up this thread -- or it will be ignored by people looking for C3 floor mat information.
