    Question on Quadrajet Bolts

We know the quadrajet bolts (to secure to I/M) consisted on two long bolts in
front and two studs on back on I/M on the L36 in 1968. Where the other engines
(even on cast iron I/M) secured the same way or did they have two smaller bolts
in the back insted of studs? When did Chevrolet switch over to all bolts insted
of a combination of bolts and studs? Thanks in advace. Larry

All 1968-71 engines with Q-Jets used the same bolts-front, studs-rear carburetor attachment. Things changed to all bolts for the 1972 model year and thereafter

Here you go: The first photo is a 1970 Q-jet and the second is a 1972.

BTW: You will not get either the front bolts or the rear nuts at you local hardware store.

I think it was a dumb thing to replace the studs with bolts. The studs help to easily locate and position the gasket, heat shield and carburetor.

          Joe,
From our perspective it sure was. Want to bet the bolts (as installed) cost less than the studs and nuts?

Not to get off the subject ,Terry I noticed the thermostat housing has a stud and nut on the passenger side. I've never seen it on a 68. Should they be set up like that?

Neither of those pictures is of a 1968. There is a good chance there is no stud on 1968 due to the different accessory drive mounting system. That stud had no Corvette application, and the applications that used it were, I think, later than 1968. This is just another of those wonderful 1968 features.

You betcha - bolts are always less costly than studs and nuts.
