The current COPO Camaro isn't built in a GM plant, isn't available to the general public, isn't street-legal, has no VIN, isn't emission-certified, and can't be registered.
John: Don't usually disagree with you but in this case I will on some of your points:

    1) On your last four points you are correct but in no way it conflicts with my statement.

To ensure fair access, an independent third party was used to identify the individuals who would be offered the opportunity to buy one of the new COPO Camaros. Those selected received confirmation early in 2012,
    2) On your general public statement I disagree--my friend purchased one and I consider him the "general public"; car bought for investment.

    3) On your first statement AFAIK the people who made the car where employees of GM; maybe the GM plant was not one we think of a
normal "plant" but the building that is used was "leased;purchased; or rented" by GM.

Like to hear your comments. Thanks; Larry

I'm sure the technicalities of your statement are supportable if you drill down far enough into the details of each one, but, for the average enthusiast lacking internal knowledge, I still prefer my assessment of "availability to the general public" and "built in a GM plant". I could probably get Scott Settlemire to lean my way on those too.

Didn't the Cobra hold the record for 0-100-0 in a production car; and was it not under 10 seconds?

Yes, Ken Miles tested a 427 Cobra and did 0-100-0 in 13.8 seconds.

Sounds just like it's nemesis in the Ford world today, the new Cobra Jet is also very fast, 0-60 in 1.52 seconds and 0-100 in 3.26 seconds.

Well, back in the 60's it was the Corvette's worst nightmare.

Oh yes, and SCCA racing would never be the same.....

Probably the 49 Plymouth holds the record.................. It was shot off a US Navy catapult, back in the day.......

This thread originally was talking about production cars and is now way off track. Who cares about a non-street legal, all out race car? 0-100 in 3.26. That's a slug. Top fuel dragsters do that in less .8 of a second.

Jim, I only mentioned it since the Camaro COPO was talked about, same thing, and Top Fuel dragsters are in a way different class than the class the Cobra Jet and Camaro COPO are in, NHRA and IHRA have many classes of competition to keep things "fair".
