    1970 AM/FM Radio/ Stereo

    Hi All,

    I'm interested in seeing pictures of a regular AM/FM Radio as well as the option AM/FM Stereo for a 1970 Corvette. Reference pictures of the face would be great.

    Thanks,
    Dave

    Re: 1970 AM/FM Radio/ Stereo

    Dave,

    According to my 1972 Chevrolet Radio Parts Catalog the 1970-1971 Corvette AM/FM Stereo radio is Product No. 7303211. The sticker on the radio should have a sticker with this product number as well as Service No. 01VFM1 or 01VFFM2.
    0 = 1970
    1 = Chevrolet
    V = Corvette
    FM = AM/FM stereo
    1 (or 2 or 3) = revision number

    Try looking on Ebay or do a search on the web using these numbers.

    Dave

      Re: 1970 AM/FM Radio/ Stereo

      Here's my 1970 AM/FM Stereo, not original to the car. (When I bought the car it had a 1974 AM/FM Stereo installed). In 1970 the AM/FM Stereo option (at $278.10) was the fourth most expensive option available.
      I wasn't able to read my tank sticker, so I opted for an AM/FM Stereo unit. With both the AM/FM Mono and Stereo only having two speakers, in hind sight an AM/FM Mono would have worked just fine. You can't hear much "music" above 35mph anyway. The car noise doesn't bother me, but add in 1970 speaker technology and it gets to be a bit much after a very short time.

      For the AM/FM Stereo you will also need the (big box) stereo de-multiplexer (or stereo decoder) and (little box) convector.

        Mike,

        Thanks so much for the pictures. That's exactly what I needed to see. I have an original AM/FM Stereo in my car now. I have to do some digging to see if the amps are still there. I suspect they are, as this car is very original and untouched.

        Best,
        Dave

            If you lay on the passenger side floor and look up, you should be able to see what's installed.

              If the convector or adapter were not installed, the radio would not work.

                Not sure why this is so small in my above post?

                  Mike the steel brace pictured for your 1970 coupe is something I do not have in my 1970 July built coupe. I bought my 70 new and still own it. Is you 70 a early model?

                    That last pic of the blue interior is not my car, it's probably not even a 70. (My car (9516) doesn't have a brace either). I found the pic on the WWW to show the decoder/convector.

                      And here I was thinking of a white with blue interior. That has some appeal.

                      I am pretty sure that brace is a sign of a convertible, but I should leave this interior stuff to Reba.

                        The under-dash tubular braces were a feature of C3 convertibles and were not used on coupes.

                          I think these braces doubled your protection in side impact crashes.

                            Convertible bodies flex more than coupes due to the lack of the upper "cross brace" on the birdcage. So, the underdash braces were added to help compensate for this.

                              That support brace runs under the dash from the transmission tunnel toward the outer right.
