    C-2 Chrome Cleaner REcommendation

My 65 has been sitting covered in my garage and a slight film on the bumpers has appeared.
Need help in selecting a chrome cleaner to remove the film and brighten up the chrome.
    Thanks

Chuck, back in the "Ice Age" the recommendation would have been your toothpaste tube....good luck and glad to hear that the car is still yours.....should have been at San Diego for showing.

      Soap and water?
      WD-40?
      Both will work.

If you think you have to polish them at all try Flitz metal polish. It works great.

I didn't think there was anyone else left! It worked great on yellowing nitrocellulose lacquer and plexiglass in the day, also. Steve

What I used was just a quality glass cleaner like Windex you should just have to clean a chrome surface not polish it. If the the glass cleaner does not have any effect I would use lacquer thinner or similar to cut the film then clean with the glass cleaner.

i am with Paul on his advice. only adding NAPA glass cleaner with ammonia is also great. it's an aerosol can. i have also used an acid based wheel cleaner before with good luck.

Need to be careful with the silkscreen on the back though.

The plater I used for hexavalent chrome (show quality) for my Chevelle said to only use Windex, but then I was starting with brand new chrome that is probably a lot better and different than what went on Corvettes back in the day.

If your chrome needs a little help beyond a mild clean up, good old Dupont #7 brings back the shine.

I've never seen mid year bumpers with silk screening on the back.

I have had excellent results using MAAS compound, followed with a good carnuba wax, the non cleaning type of wax like Mothers #3.

I had a brain burp. I was thinking about the air cleaner lid.

Chuck, you've got it right, you clean chrome, you don't polish it. You won't find anything better than glass cleaner or soap and water. The ammonia content in glass cleaner is a very small % so it won't hurt the chrome.
