Re: NCRS Judging Retreat
I would like to add my $.02 worth as I attended my first ever Judging Retreat and to be perfectly honest....... I came away impressed and very appreciative of all who were involved and to all all who attended. As a total novice and someone who in all honesty will never be able to afford to purchase the high-end Corvettes I applaud all of you! I found sooooo many people who seem to live every day for the Corvette and all that it stands for!- Top

Re: NCRS Judging Retreat
Actually it was the fourth as they were held in 2005, 2006, 2008 and now 2013. Each was held at the same facility in Grapevine, TX. There was a time when it was felt a Chapter retreat could be orchestrated and was approved, the attempts by several well-staffed chapter events proved very difficult so the chapter level events were cancelled – logistics, timing, expense and instructor qualifications all were issues. That stance will not be changed by the judging office in the foreseeable future.
can you provide more information on what level of tech seminars the chapters are allowed to have. Up in MI we have had some very detailed and lengthy tech seminars that certainly rival those I've attended at Nationals. They certainly seem worth more than one point when taken in context. Thanks.

As an edited addition to the above comment there is no technical session that guarantees judging points, judging schools earn judging points, tech sessions on how to rebuild a carburetor, alternator or a body lift are not judging schools, this is all spelled out in the Judging Reference Manual.Last edited by Roy S.; February 26, 2013, 11:39 AM.- Top

Re: NCRS Judging Retreat
George please do not take offense to this comment, having never attended a retreat, it would be very hard for you to imagine the intense training that occurs over the two day period. While many chapters including yours do a great job with judging schools, we tried chapter judging retreats with two of the best, we even drafted a manual to use in conducting the retreat, bottom line it’s just too complicated to present at the chapter level. There is no chapter judging retreat option.

no offense taken, but I think you misunderstood my question, and maybe I'm getting off-track by mixing "Judging Seminars" with "Tech Sessions". I understand that putting on a "Judging Retreat" is not available to the Chpaters. Currently, there is one point awarded for attending a Chapter Tech Session. Is the number of points awarded for a Chapter Tech Session limited to one, or if there were more intense, detailed Tech Sessions presented, would they be eligible for two, or three points, instead of just one? My point is, that it might be interesting to have a series of Tech Sessions on a weekend at the Chapter Level that mirror what goes on at a National.
Thanks,

No tech session gets judging points, only judging schools get judging points. There is no option available for judging schools at a chapter level other than 1 point. This is explained in the Judging Reference Manual- Top

then I must be calling them the wrong thing. Maybe Chapter Judging Schools is what they are and not Tech Sessions. Sorry for the confusion. I thought I had seen, on some peoples profiles, that they received 2 or 3 points for Chapter Judging Schools. I must be mistaken. I need to review the Judging Reference Manual more carefully.

Re: NCRS Judging Retreat
Yes, I understand that. I've attended a few Nationals where I received more than one point for a Judging Seminar. I think there is some confusion regarding the terms, though, even at the national level. If you look at page 123 of the latest Driveline, they list, under the Technical Sessions section "Paint: the new Frontier" as receiving 3 Judging Points. I have taken that session myself at the Novi National. I understand it may be a Judging Session, but it is listed under the Tech Sessions. I think that is why I was confused.
I understand, now, so will stop beating a dead horse.
