What's the so called optional high lift cam on C1's? Is this the Duntov cam even though it's not high lift, but long duration, or something else?

Duntov 097 cam aka 3736-097. Readily available William from Federal Mogul. CS113R. Label on the box says Sealed Power by Federal Mogul. CS 113R. Make sure a clerk doesn't sell you a CS118R cam instead.
Solid lifter #AT992. Available thru Car Quest and other chain stores. TOtal cost less than $200 with a discount. John- Top

wasn't wanting to buy one. Question is: Is the Duntov cam the cam Chevy referrs to as "special HIGH LIFT cam", even though design of Duntov cam is long duration, but relatively low lift, or is there another cam that meets the option description?

Duntov specs and these should be pretty close 228/230 dur and 394/399 lft, give or take a few degrees.I have heard that this cam runs about like a hyd L79 =221/221 dur and 447/447 lft but might not rev to where the duntov can, both are good small block cams though for drivers IMO.JR- Top

Bruce, hope all is well. 'looks like you may get some weather. I have never heard a standard set of numbers describing what a high lift cam is. I think most people follow "I know it when I see it." I think it was often used the same as the terms "3/4 race cam" and "full race cam"---no specific specs. just what various performance cams were called by anyone.
Jim, I have used both of these cams and have a couple extra of each. I have also installed the L-79 '151 cam advanced 4 degrees and 6 degrees. They are both good cams in my opinion. I think the '097 is more fun compared to the '151.

Yep, we are going to see he last winter weather tomorrow, I wish.
My 67 had the 151 cam and I loved the performance, but you can't beat the Duntov in my 62. The solid lifters just do something for me.
I just had a 327 ( +0.060) built for the 57 gasser, 151 cam with the hilborn should be pretty peppy.
I also have the original 283 283 which I might put in the car with a Rochester unit on it. I still love the solid lifter sound.- Top

There was also a time when the Power Pack cam was considered a "high Lift" performance cam, least wise we put one from a 56 Power Pack engine (4 barrel) into a 55 (2 barrel) V8 back in the day and realized improved performance. The manifold was swapped out for the 4 barrel as well as dual exhausts were added. It was still a hydraulic lifter cam, but the car with a Powerglide slush box dropped more than a half second in the quarter. I don't have any of the cam specs, but it was a common and cheap upgrade to the base 165 hp V8.

Have to let you know that the L79 cam is almost identical to the specs of the "30-30"cam used in '64-'64 hiperf SB's,(except for lifters. It's not the same as the 097 Duntov.L79 and 30-30 have much higher lift than the Duntov.- Top

Respect your knowledge a lot, but here's where I'm coming from: Lift patterns for 30-30 and the 151 cam are almost identical(taken from a diagram in an old issue of "Corvette News") There are some differences in duration and overlap. 30-30 duration 446*13", overlap118*13"; L79 (151) duration342*, overlap114*.L79 cam(and 30-30 cam) i much different from the Duntov cam as I'm sure you know. Was just letting other poster know this difference.- Top
