Turn signal switch - wire attachment

Thanks in advance for any help here.

To start, I searched the archives, including All 97 pages of the 63-64 threads....

    I also looked at AIM.

    Here is the question:

The internal turn signal cable attaches to the switch at the lower end of the column.

During removal of interior, some idiot.... (Me) managed to pull that wire off the switch.

How exactly does the switch captivate the wire? It seems pretty flimsy.

once I figure out how to properly reattach down near the firewall end I assume it will have to be adjusted so the middle sliding position matches the "off"position of turn signal stalk

It is not a great connection. The metal wire just slides into the clip on the directional switch. Really not very difficult. Center the clip on the switch and have the directional arm in the center position and slide the wire into the clip. Test to make sure it works properly.

63 only. They changed the switch to a better design in 64.

I assume after playing around with it that you press down on springy tab, slide wire through and release pressure on tab,,thereby pressing wire up against upper top catches?
          correct?

Correct. That's how it works. AIM gives instructions also.
