I have been watching a '66 Plymouth Belvedair II hemi car rust to the ground. I started trying to buy the car before I bought my L/88 in the '80's. The owners were going to fix the car up and keep it. The keep it part they had right, but the body is pretty much toast now.

As a side note to the discussion on "barn finds", if you have not looked at the website www.carsinbarns.com,, you might find it interesting. It is a rather sad and common commentary that more than one owner of a "barn find" intends to restore it someday; however, it would appear that in most cases it does not occur. Sadly, the cars continue to languish and rot away...

I agree with you. The 64 is an original car (not too many of those around anymore) that I will decide to restore or not restore after it's in my garage!

The restoration shop owner that reframed my '67 a year ago was able to buy his high school shop teacher's one owner triple black '64 roadster for $7,000.00. A cherry South Carolina frame was purchased, straightened a tad and painted along with new fuel and brake lines. The paint is crazed in some areas but never has been hit. 300/327, both tops and all paperwork from new! Drives and runs great. I see it every Friday afternoon at beer club.

The car is tan/tan with a white top. Not sure what I'm going to do with the car. Once I get it, I'll decide. It has 48,500 miles

Rob, don't get too upset about this. The continuing increase in the value of collectable cars has brought many cars back that would'nt have been restored before. That's why it's hard for us to find barn finds. However, there are well meaning owners who continue to create barn finds, mostly by the mistake of waiting too long to start/finish the project and losing interest.

You're right that many are deteriorating, but the availabilty of parts such as good quality body panels and frame parts, and the great tools we now have like MIG welders allow many more people do restorations a lot more cheaply.

I doubt we'll ever see barn finds like we did 30 years ago, but I believe that there will always be barn finds out there and if the market continues after the sexagenarians and septuagenarians are gone, the car collector and restoration hobby is safe.

Update on this 1964. It was sold at $25,000 to a friend of mine. When I knew he really was connected to the family and knew the car forever, I backed away from the bidding. I may a little crazy for doing this, but a friend is a friend! There will be other!

Well,
I posted about a 63 coupe I saw outside behind a barn/building about 2 years ago and it was really rough, the sun got to every part of it. Didn't have much going for it other than no rust in California and maybe the #s matched.
My good friend broke a crank while flying his plane and landed on the road and pulled his plane in a parking lot up in the mountains about 150 east of LA, so we went up to retrieve it. He told me he walked next to the fence and saw a vette like mine rotting away in the sun.
I took a quick look as I was trasspassing and we had to get the plane back to Palm Springs so time was really tight. It looked like a 300 automatic and it was full of junk. The owner of the vette ran the bowling alley/resturante/bar.
She said it was her husbands car and he was going to get it going some day, maybe a mid 40's guy.
I asked her if he would sell it and she called him. She came out to her parking lot and said if he decided to sell it he wanted 30K. NO way was it worth that so I offered her a trade and gave her my cell #.
The guys got to be a dreamer but yhe car deserves to live on. I was told the car was mooved and probably into the barb/building.
I hope this doesn't start something because any further interest would cause him to think it was wort a lot more.
It was in Pioneer Town Ca. and belonged to the husband of the wife that runs the bowling alley. Good luck thats all I know other than Pioneer town is very small and only has a few living there, (maybe 50) and was a left over from the cowboy movies with a resturante and a bowling alley/bar.
My friend took a lot of pics of the town and I will post a pic if he still has one of the car.

A friend in Wisconson sold his 64 saddle / saddle leather coupe in August for $30000. The original 365 engine was rebuilt on an engine stand. Car had leather, PB, PW full tint, and window sticker from Luby Chevrolet in Denver. My friend got it from his uncle in 1979. Never hit, repainted in 1984. ''CE'' replacement engine. Nice car.

Here's the Pioneer town vette. I was able to get the pics from my friend and they are not that good as I took a pic of his pic.
These actually make the vette look good.
