Good post Ray. I sent it on to a colleague who is a Chevrolet tech. His response:

"This has been going on for a while.
We have been told that if we want to buy a Tech 2 that we should get the serial number form the unit and then call GM and they will verify if it is legit.
The easiest way to tell a fake Tech 2 is check the expansion slot door. Fake ones are plastic. Real ones are metal.
I have heard that some of those candi modules have nothing inside them.

Real CANdi modules have a clear indicator light that turn green when in use. Counterfeits have a green lens.
Real CANdi modules have aluminum connector terminal material. Counterfeits have brass looking terminal s in the connectors.

ANY LABEL ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE TECH 2 CASE 1/2'S
WITH A PRODUCTION DATE CODE IS A CLONE.

BEWARE!!!!! THERE ARE MANY CHINA TECH 2'S
BEING SOLD BY LOCAL USA ADDRESS'S AS 'LIGHTLY USED'.
