Has anyone had their exhaust manifolds ceramic coated? My understanding is that a 20-30% reduction in engine bay temp can be acheived, and that it can be painted over for judging. Thanks

Re: Ceramic coat exhaust
Roger I had mine done by Jet Hot Coatings, not sure how much temp reduction Also, the coating is thick enough that it will be detectable, even if painted. Might suggest buying a set of repos and coating them and saving the originals for NCRS judging- Top

Re: Ceramic coat exhaust
Roger, I have a set of comp hedders that I had Jet coated and like Al said the coating is thick enough you can tell. I would not ceramic coat an original factory manifold due to the non-typical factory look but if you have some exhaust to play with the coating is great and protects very well. Mine are coated outside and inside. Steve- Top

Re: Ceramic coat exhaust
I've used Central CT Coatings numerous times for them to ceramic coat original exhaust manifolds. I've been very pleased with their final product. Be clear with your expectations so all parties are on the same page.

Re: Ceramic coat exhaust
Roger,
I had Jet Hot coat inside and outside of a set of ram horn manifolds; cost $210 about 8 years ago; bottom line they do NOT reduce the temp by 20-30 % as JH said they would. It may reduce the temp 10% at most.

Re: Ceramic coat exhaust
I had my entire exhaust coated - satin black - it is REALLY thin - it is not thick at all - it has never discolored or peeled or turned color - even at the at manifold.
I had mine done at my powder coater I use
They did a PERfECT job and I plan to do it again...... !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1954 Corvette #3803 - Top Flight 2012, Bloomington Gold 2012,

I had my manifolds flame sprayed with aluminum here - http://www.z28camaro.com/restosvcs.html#manifold
and then sprayed painted with VHT paint.

Re: Ceramic coat exhaust
Roger------
Want to reduce cabin heat caused by radiation of exhaust? Forget about any sort of manifold coatings. I recommend wrapping the forward exhaust pipes with insulating blankets which can be retained by either special straps or stainless steel hose clamps. The blankets can be easily removed for judging.
Oh, by the way, if you want to really increase your cabin heat level (maybe because you're always cold), then install tubular headers in place of cast iron exhaust manifolds. That's the best way to increase cabin heat levels I can think of (besides keeping the heater on all the time).
