I have a C2 rear suspension problem. All parts are new except the original (63) spring was rearched to spec. When I accelerate ,only 300 HP, the rear of the vehicle goes down and seems to pull the rear to the right. I must steer to the right. When I decelerate the rear of the vehicle comes up and the front of the vehicle must be steered right. Passed PV. Dangerous! Everything is tight,no broken welds and I believe the posi to be free. HELP!

Re: C2 rear suspension / handleing problem
When the rear spring was installed was the final torquing done with the wheels on the ground? If your not sure check the spring, are all the leaves still aligned or have they twisted out of shape.

Re: C2 rear suspension / handleing problem
I most definitely would check all the bushings, front and rear plus have a four wheel alignment performed. The squat on acceleration and the raising of the rear on decel are normal, what is not is the pulling. I suspect that you have a bushing(bushings) worn and allowing a caster change causing the pulling.Dick Whittington- Top

Possible some trailing arm alignment shims fell out. Very common when later slotted shims are used on an early car with no retaining cotter pin.- Top

Re: C2 rear suspension / handleing problem
Toe in setting in the rear is very important. The suspension will go through toe in to toe out in compression so if you don't start out with enough on both sides you will get this type of behavior. I had it in turn 5 at Laguna Seca.- Top

Re: C2 rear suspension / handleing problem
Car has total restoration with 105 miles on Duntov. It's all new with 3 allignments, all new parts front and rear, everything is tight. I welded welding rod over shim openings. It took 7 Cooker 6/70-15's to get four to balance.- Top

Re: C2 rear suspension / handleing problem
Stan, from what your explaining it sure sound like the posi clutchs are locked. Years ago when at a Chevrolet dealership we to have Joie Chitwood thrill show come to town for a yearly town fair and If you don't know them they were stunt drivers who like to drive on two wheels.and of coarse they where all Chevrolets. and every year they would break something, rear ends, and transmisson where common, I did the major repairs on there cars. and we always welded the gears in the rear diff. and they also use front drive cars and the transmisson spider gears were also welded. if you ever drove these cars on the open road , they drive like what your explaining, accelarating the car goes in one directional and when decelarating the other way. is this what your experiencing?New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top

Re: C2 rear suspension / handleing problem
Stan, I truely don't know if you can over come the spring tension on the posi clutchs while the car is on lift and spinning wheels. Does the car act like what I said in my prev. post while you accel and decel? What does the car act like on tight turns in a parking lot?Last edited by Edward J.; February 12, 2013, 11:29 AM.New England chapter member, 63 Convert. 327/340- Chapter/Regional/national Top Flight, 72 coupe- chapter and regional Top Flight.- Top
