    judging - protect o plate

In the current addition of the Restorer Roy Sinor mentioned the Protect-O-Plate will no longer be judged and no points will be assigned. Why was this decision made? How does the Protect-O-Plate differ from other owner instruction items that still remain part of judging. The emissions label, starting procedure label, tire pressure label, jacking instruction, etc etc. are all part of the scope of judging. Aren't these also considered documents?

    Just curious.

I guess it's the same reason you don't need a had top on your convertable even though it had one.

I cannot speak for Roy's reasoning, but I for one, applaud that decision. Too many owners stepped up and paid big dollars for counterfeit tank stickers, POP, etc. A lot of us are not experts (especially me) in documents and cannot distinguish the difference in the better counterfeits. Why give credit for something that most threw away?

      Good decision Roy

Could this be a reason ? In Canada, AFAIK, there was just an owners card; no P-O-P in the C2 sense.

Here's mine, off the only new car I've ever owned; a '72 convertible. followed by the GM Canada microfiche codes (middle of the 3 cars shown).

People are still gonna make counterfeits of POPs and other documents for various reasons. Just sayin'.

Re: judging - protect o plate

I think we all understand and acknowledge there are cars that are entered for judging with parts and printed documents that are repo's (counterfeit) with no disclaimers attached and have sailed through judging. Why are we now singling the POP document? I think if a document is presented for judging, including the window sticker and tank sticker, they should be judged and considered part of the points calculation. If in the eyes of the judge they are "not typical" or notpresent the appropriate point reduction should be given. Just like any other aspect of the car is treated. Tires, the battery, decals, top panel storage bags, air filter, keys, etc, etc. receive point deductions for not being typical or not present

The car should be judged just as the NCRS Judging standard states in the TIMJG states: "Cars are to judged to the standard of vehicle appearance, and as equipped, at the time and point of final assembly by Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors Corporation. Presentation for judging is to be in the condition normally associated with that of a Corvette which has undergone the then current standard Chevrolet Dealer New Car Preparation for delivery to the purchaser, exclusive of any dealer or purchaser inspired addition, deletion or change."

Roy, my point is why exclude the POP, window sticker, tank sticker, etc if we don't exclude other items that border on and/or are counterfeit. I believe the proof is with the cars owner to prove authenticity. Authenticity can be had via Documentation Validation Service. Unfortunately that service is not available for the POP and therefore should remain a part of the judging criteria.

We have never judged window stickers, we have never judged tank sheets, we no longer judge protect-o-plates.

Period, end of sentence, and paragraph. That is all.
