Please help ID these two pieces. The one is shorter than the other. The shorter one does not have lengthwise reinforcing ribs on the bottom edge, is boxed in at both ends, and demands that the L-bracket from the exhaust bolt slips through a notch in the upper boxed-in area. What years and what positions (left rear, right front, etc.) do these fit? Thanks!

Re: Help ID lower ignition shielding
Mike,
They are not for 1963-1967 Corvettes.
If you look on the Corvette Pacifica website the top one is 69-70 Corvette, left front lower and the bottom one is 70-79 Corvette right front lower. I assume they are correct as I am not an expert on 68-79 shielding.

Re: Help ID lower ignition shielding
Mike, I believe you will find one (the curved one) is a low grade stainless and the other is chrome plated steel. Typically the stainless was used on the pass side and the Plated on the drivers side. The large holes would have been access to cyl head mounted sensors and over the years functioned to feed the engine management info for a variety of things. I'm thinking late 60's early 70's up but other than obviously smallblock I'm not deep enough in references for those years to help muchBill Clupper #618- Top

Re: Help ID lower ignition shielding
I am off to have some fun and freeze in Arizona and then Florida for a while so don't look for any photos until the end of the month. Did you know that last Friday 1-11-13 it was 20 degrees warmer in Chicago (55*) than it was in San Diego (35*)?Terry- Top

Re: Help ID lower ignition shielding
They will fit an early 70, maybe a few others as well.
The longer shield goes on the rear passenger side, the hole is for the TCS temp sending wire.
The shorter one goes on the front driver side, the hole is for the in car Temperature Gauge sending wire. This one is a huge pain in the a$$ to install. Here's what I've done in the past. Swearing is a must! (It's easier to install if the alternator is removed. You'll see)
1. While holding the heatshield - attach the aft bracket to the heatshield with the wingnut (leave it a bit loose).
2. Install the forward exhaust manifold bolt with forward heatshield bracket (leave it loose).
3. While holding the heatshield close to being in place, fish the temp sending wire thru and attach to sending unit.
4. Final fit the heatshield in place, align aft bracket and install center manifold bolt. The fun part is having everything loose and moving all at the same time.
Good luck.
Here's a pic from the Paragon catalogue, the aft passenger side shielding is not accurate due to lack of TCS wire hole.
