Richard: don't know about the engine numbers, but your tranny is out of 1969 Corvette with VIN derivative 72S24978, assembled July 3rd 1969, wide ratio (and per tag 3950356) could be mated with a differential ratio from 3.08 thru 3.70.

But your side cover is off a 1970-up trans.

The 3970010 casting number is a well known 350 cu in. block which fits with the CLA suffix as this suffix was used in 1973 and 1974 in Corvettes with 190 hp 350s with a 400 automatic trans.

Nailing down the casting date would be good, as it is my experience that the General sometimes used these suffixes in other vhicles in other years. Case in point, the CLA suffix was also used for 1972 Chevelle with a 240 horse 402 (396) automatic. Obviously not the case here.

No offense, but your numbers as presented is a little "garbled".

What exactly is stamped on the pad? There should be two separate stamps, each with different font sizes.
