    1954 Horn Contact Verification Needed

I am beginning work on the horn system for my 54 and had a question regarding all of the horn contact parts found in the steering hub. All of the components and horn ring were missing on my car so I have little to go on. From a quick search of the past technical postings it has been suggested that the horn contact components used on the Corvette were identical to those in the 54 pass car. I have found this contact set on the Ecklers site and wondered if it is correct with all of the parts needed between the steering wheel and chrome horn ring.

I have a chrome horn ring now and will be purchasing the emblem later. Am I on the right track if I purchase this kit?

Second question would be the upper bearing and wire that is installed within the mast jacket...I do not have this yet and will install it when I rebuild the steering box - does the little spring-loaded horn contact button found in this contact kit ride on the outer rim of the bearing? Have not found a clear diagram yet when looking at the "Old Car Manual" site which by the way has been a load of help.

    Thanks!!
    John

    that is the kit
    install the upper bearing
make sure there is no paint on the outer lip of the brg - that is what the spring loaded contact ride on
make sure there is no paint on the inside of the steering wheel area
the metal "spring" faces up towards the steering wheel
you will also need the spring that goes over the mast - keeps the brg in the housing.....

John - Look at the picture and diagram for Corvette Central's part number 561125 (Upper Steering Column Bearing) in their C1 catalog. That assembly fits into the steering wheel end of the steering column tube. The spring loaded horn contact rides on the brass surface you see at the edge of the tube with the bearing assembly installed. The wire you see goes through a connector and on to the horn relay. When this wire is grounded, the horn relay sends the + current to the horn. Horn buttons work by completing the circuit to a ground when you push on the horn ring. Tim
