'61 Dash Mystery Wire ID Needed

The wire in the photo with the blue tape and connector was found unconnected when I removed the dash. The wire appears to be grayish in color. Where is this wire supposed to go or is it an add on? Thanks!

almost all gray wires on a c-1 are energizing dash lites. ncrs sells a wiring diagram book that i've found extremely helpful when sorting out a wiring problem . the book, 1953-1972 Corvette Electrical Wiring Diagrams, can be purchased thru the good folks in cincinnati.(see membership). good luck, mike

The wire diagram in the service manual shows that the gray wires are dash lamps, including the cigarette lighter and radio. If you know where the other gray wires go, you should be able to see where the mystery wire goes through a process of elimination useing the wire diagram.

All grey dash lamp wires are already accounted for. This has a female connector on it. It could be a radio wire that has not been used for a long time. Does it look like the stock radio wire?

That is likely for the cig lighter lamp, which has a pigtail on it to reach that connector. I'd bet your lighter was replaced at one time and they replaced it with the housing that didn't include the lamp.
