    70 Job # vs VIN #?

My 70 Coupe job number is 270 and my VIN is xxx516. Can someone explain the math to me? I thought it went in increments of 500.

    TIA,
    Mike

Correct, but there is no distinct correlation. Any relationship between them is generally coincidence.

My understanding is that someone would write job work orders for the week starting with oo1 to 500. There was no coralation between SN & job #

For some models years, job numbers run 1 to 500 then begin again with no correlation to the VIN. For other model years for vehicles with VINs ending in xx501 and above, 500 can be subtracted from the last digits of the VIN and get the job number. Beginning with the 73 models and the new format build schedule, job numbers are often the last three digits of the VIN.

On my 1971, the vin number ends in 160, but the the chalk marks are 163. I just assumed that they were somehow related. Maybe not! Jim

My old 71 matched up VIN #1914 Job #414 but it was an early car.

The penciled number on the right center of my tank sticker is 297. If this is the job number, it matches the vin 14297 of my July 1970 Corvette. I didn't take note of the crayon number when I took my tank down many years ago. Was the penciled number on the tank sticker supposed to be the job number or an indicatiion of the VIN, or something else?
