Since I am considering having him do some small touch ups on my car, does anyone have any comments on one paint manufacturer vs another?

I hope I'm not distracting from Bob's original post here. My intention is to include paint manufacturer quality as well as metallic content, matching, etc. in the discussion.

    Thanks.
I don't have huge experience at this, my BC/CC cars have been done with DuPont (I used to work for DuPont so was a bit prejudiced , but I liked the paint jobs), but my '67 was done in acrylic lacquer (as original as possible) and the paint man told me only PPG makes it properly like original. My Rally Red doesn't have any metallic, as far as I can see and as far as I know, looks pretty good except it is lacquer, prone to all the problems of that old fashioned paint, like swirl marks, softness, and easily chipped by rocks, etc. Not sure about what the paint guy said about the rarity of acrylic lacquer, just repeating what he told me several years ago, not sure about today.

Sikkens was a company I was going to check with. They have a ditributor in Cincinnati. I'm in Dayton and would like to have the contact that Mark refers to. Any body know how to get in touch with John Ballard?

If you want to contact John, walk outside on a calm clear night, close your eyes and as you click your heels together repeat the following..I have issues and need the real deal, I have issues and need the real deal, I have issues...

Contact John and send him your samples of spray outs. Be sure to send the tempatures, humidity, and the PSI that you are spraying at for each sample then you can adjust from there. The "Real Deal" can get you really close.

Whew! Glad to hear that, after Mark said this: "If you want to contact John, walk outside on a calm clear night, close your eyes and as you click your heels together repeat the following..I have issues and need the real deal, I have issues and need the real deal, I have issues...", I had feared the worst.....

I got a good laugh out of Mark's post. I was going to respond with an LoL, but that is too few letters for this board, and I was too lazy to find one of those funny drawings to spice up my comment. I knew Mark wasn't from Kansas, and neither is John, so I knew right off it was a joke. Besides, Mark rolls that way.

DuPont has the correct metallic size although normally you need to reduce the amount of metallic by as much as 1/2 to get a correct appearance. Adjust the metallic amount and do spray outs to get a correct appearance. Matching color is not a simple process.
