I'm restoring my 1966 corvette and I'm getting very close to painting it. Does anyone know where I can get a paint standard/card that I can use to have have paint matched to it? Thanks for your help!

Re: Need Original Paint Standard/Card for my 1966 Corvette
Usually, a painter wants the Ditzler/PPG/DuPont color codes and formulas for a paint.
Like this: http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorcod...r=1966&rows=50
Those old cards are not very reliable, IMO.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

I had not seen that much difference in my paint jobs, are both lacquer, or is this BC/CC, or something else? I have usually gone with the Ditzler/PPG codes. I guess you could compare your spray out patches with the colors shown here:

But again, in person match is best, maybe if you post the color you are looking for, an owner could help with the match.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Use Dupont . PPG will always have to course of a metallic . The true color Nassau Blue if you look real hard ,real close ,at the paint you can just bearly make out some metallic . Anything courser than that is wrong .And clearcoat just magnifes it .- Top

John Ballard and others tell us that the metallic commonly used now days is all too course. One painter I know gets a variety of grades of metallic from one of the German companies -- but the name escapes me this late at night. You of course you will have to use their products throughout.Terry- Top

any body can buy mixing colors from any paint store that has a mixing system .dupont still has and uses the very fine metallic . Every body pays the same there is no discount on paint . You can request the mixer to leave out the called for metallic and sub. the very fine .- Top

Re: Need Original Paint Standard/Card for my 1966 Corvette
Confucius says, "when dealing with honorable older Corvettes, buy only black, white, red or yellow."
I know that John Ballard has a source in the Dayton, OH area that has an excellent match for Nassau Blue with fine metallic. He tells me the color is right on. I believe, Gary Bosselman has a source for Nassau that is also an excellent match.Kramden- Top

I know folks say these are not the most accurate when determining original color but, I've found them to be very accurate when looking at original paint cars. Apparently, the cars paint and these chips are aging at a similar rate.

Re: Need Original Paint Standard/Card for my 1966 Corvette
I don't have a horse in this race, however I see that some are talking about PPG. A body and paint friend of mine dislikes and avoids working with PPG whenever possible. He says "PPG" stands for "Pits Pretty Good". Probably more of a BC/CC comment than lacquer though.
Since I am considering having him do some small touch ups on my car, does anyone have any comments on one paint manufacturer vs another?
I hope I'm not distracting from Bob's original post here. My intention is to include paint manufacturer quality as well as metallic content, matching, etc. in the discussion.
Thanks.Don Lowe
